Preparing Your Manuscript for Editorial Review
A well-organized manuscript helps its strongest qualities shine.

A publisher needs more than a promising premise. A clear manuscript, concise synopsis, and thoughtful preparation make it easier to assess a book’s potential.
Begin with the manuscript itself
Read the complete draft as a reader would, then revise for clarity, continuity, pacing, and the overall purpose of the book. Correct spelling and formatting, but focus first on whether each chapter adds something meaningful.
Prepare a useful synopsis
A synopsis should explain the core idea, key themes, intended readership, and the overall progression of the work. For fiction, include the central conflict and resolution; for nonfiction, describe the practical value and structure.
Build a concise author introduction
Briefly explain your background, relevant experience, and reason for writing the book. Avoid overstating credentials or adding unrelated personal history.
Review submission instructions
Every publisher evaluates work differently. Confirm accepted categories and manuscript requirements before sharing full files. Keep your manuscript and personal information secure.
